Griselda’s Story

A stable home for many people means a place to grow mentally, emotionally, and financially. For Griselda that dream of stability extends to one day feeling financially stable enough to allow herself to take time off work for a Disney vacation with her two young boys.
Prior to Habitat NCC, Griselda and her sons were living in a small 3-bedroom apartment riddled with major repairs issues that were being neglected by their landlord. Frustrated with her living situation, Griselda quickly felt encouraged to apply for the homeownership program after learning about her aunt’s journey as a Habitat homeowner. Much to her surprise, Griselda received the news from Habitat NCC in March 2021 that she was accepted and going to be a Habitat homeowner.
This wonderful news has given her a new lease on life and Griselda looks forward to that stable place where her family can build memories and form stronger bonds and make that dream of a Disney vacation a not-so-distant reality.
DSHA has included the following guidance for 2023 regarding the NAA Tax Credit program:
- Contributions to traditional IRA accounts are not eligible for NAA credits.
- Donations to Donor Advised Funds are not eligible for NAA credits.
- Donations must be dated and received by the non-profit within the 2023 tax year to qualify.
- Applications must be complete and include NAA application, Form 2001AC and proof of donation in PDF form only
- Checks made payable to the non-profit for the benefit of a donor must include additional documentation to indicate donor ownership/type of account. (For example, a bank check made payable to the non-profit notating it is coming from a donor account).
- Stock donations must include donor account statement information indicating the withdrawal and the non-profit statement indicating transfer to their account. Statements should include the donor name. Please note: Stock donations take longer to process as information is needed from the brokers

Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit
Give back – get back. With the NAA Tax Credit, your qualifying gift could earn you a Delaware State Tax Credit worth half of your gift.
Your qualifying gift to Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County, in the 2024 tax year, may earn you a Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit equal to 50% of your gift. Tax-credit funding is limited – and awarded on a first-come, first-served, basis. Qualifying contributions of $2,500 or more from individuals and $10,000 or more from businesses may apply for the tax credit.
Help us help you! Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County will submit your application through the DSHA portal.
The portal opens on March 12th, 2025. Making your gift online is the quickest and easiest way to secure your tax credit. To submit an application for the tax credit, contact Kathi Barber via email at development@habitatncc.org.

Making a gift of stock is easy through Habitat!
The fastest and easiest way to make a stock gift is to do an electronic transfer. Your broker will need information from Habitat for Humanity NCC to complete your gift. too.

Donor Advised Funds
You can create a grant recommendation from your donor-advised fund to support Habitat for Humanity.
As with all gift planning, you should consult with your tax advisor and lawyer to determine what planned gift strategy is best for your current tax situation and income requirements.
